There are many ways to spend a day in Hong Kong, but soaking up some sun and taking a dip in one of the city’s famous pools is definitely our top choice. Not only are Hong Kong’s pools some of the most stunning around, but they also give you the opportunity to soak up the cosmopolitan cityscape and take in breathtaking harbour views whilst you swim.
If you’re looking for an opulent pool experience, look no further than the one at The Peninsula Hong Kong. The glamorous hotel’s iconic art deco indoor pool is straight out of a Gatsby movie and the perfect place to unwind after a long flight. From the marbled Roman columns to the striped lounge chairs, this pool is guaranteed to make you feel like royalty. With a view of the harbour and Victoria Peak, it’s no wonder that this is one of the best pools in Hong Kong.
Another incredible pool is the one at the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong. Located at the 118th floor of the International Commerce Centre – or as we like to call it, the tallest skyscraper in the world – this pool gives you a taste of what it would be like to swim in the clouds. With floor to ceiling windows, mirrored ceilings and LED walls that showcase an illusion of coral reefs, swimming here is a true experience.
For something more unique, check out the pool at Cordis Hong Kong. This hotel towers over the busy streets of Mongkok, giving you a serene escape from the hustle and bustle. The hotel’s sleek rooftop pool is home to a 20 meter lap pool, jacuzzi and even underwater speakers for some relaxing tunes while you swim. If you’re lucky enough to nab a cabana, you’ll be able to enjoy some uninterrupted laps with spectacular city views.
Although Hong Kong’s public pools are some of the most beautiful in the world, it’s worth mentioning that a number of them were closed due to health concerns during the recent strike. This was mainly due to the fact that some pools were contaminated with vomit and faeces. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) have since taken measures to deal with the issue and have stated that the vast majority of swimming pools have now reopened.
In addition to addressing the safety issues, the government has also vowed to build more new pools to cope with the rising demand. A new Wan Chai swimming pool recently opened, and the two existing ones in Tin Shui Wai are set to be refurbished as well. In the meantime, if you’re planning to visit a public swimming pool, be sure to bring along your Public Swimming Pool Monthly Ticket ($150). This is a great way to save money and avoid the queues at crowded pools! You can purchase the tickets online or at selected outlets. For more information, please visit LCSD’s website.
