The Hongkong Prize and the Hari Art Prize 2024

The hongkong prize, sponsored by a Hong Kong-based social entrepreneurship platform Generocity, offers HK$5,000 for innovative ideas to shape Hong Kong’s role as an international development city. The winners will be selected by a panel of judges comprising global experts in development, business and public policy. The winning proposals will be used to address issues related to urban planning, economic development and social impact.

During the protests in Hong Kong last year, hundreds or even thousands of people including police officers, journalists, tourists or students from the mainland or innocent local residents were attacked by anti-government protesters. They were also robbed and their property damaged. In addition, many businesses were forced to close and banks were looted. In some cases, innocent people were threatened or even kidnapped.

The Hari Art Prize 2024 is open to self-taught artists and recent art graduates within the first ten years of their artistic career. Submissions are accepted in all genres of artwork and mediums, and the winning artist will receive a cash award and a trophy, donated by Aron Harilela, CEO of Hong Kong-based hotel chain Harilela Hotels.

In addition to the main prize of HK$2 million, a second prize of HK$500,000 and an honorary award of HK$10,000 each will be awarded. The winners will be announced at a ceremony to be held in December in Hong Kong.

The annual HK prize, sponsored by a Hong Kong-based lottery operator, has raised the jackpot to over HK$138 million after the draw on Thursday failed to produce a winner. The jackpot is the highest in the history of the prize, and it will remain at a record high until a winner is found.

The Hong Kong prize, a competition for local authors to write books that best portray the spirit of the city, has attracted many entries. The jury has chosen a list of 10 finalist, and will announce the winner on November 30. The finalists include Hong Kong-based writers like Jimmy Lai, Chow Hang-tung and Lee Cheuk-yan. Some of the works depicted in the book are of a historical nature, while others have a more contemporary perspective. Some even focus on the relationship between Hong Kong and the mainland.
